In April 2007, Heritage embarked on a ten-year campaign entitled Leadership for America which seeks to rediscover and revive the first principles of liberty. It is an opportunity to build for the future and secure Heritage's position as a permanent voice for conservatism across the country. As part of Leadership for America, Heritage established the Community Committee Program whose mission is to extend the influence of conservative ideas and principles in key areas of the country, by recruiting new members and sharing Heritage's policy recommendations with local policymakers and the general public.

The Special Events team works to accomplish these goals by executing over 100 events per year. The department works closely with Development in planning and coordinating the Annual Leadership Conference and Board Meeting, the semi annual President's Club, and events hosted by Community Committees. Notable speakers have included President George W. Bush, Vice President Richard B. Cheney, Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Fred Barnes, David McCullough and various high level officials. Special Events also works with internal departments in executing conferences such as the Legal Strategy Forum, Resource Bank, Religion Research Conference, Conservative Members Retreat, Education Summit, Healthcare Reform Conference and other policy related events.

Special Events upholds a standard of excellence in promoting Leadership for America and the mission of The Heritage Foundation.
