Brian W. Walsh is the Senior Legal Research Fellow in The Heritage Foundation's Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. 

Walsh directs Heritage's projects on countering the abuse of the criminal law and criminal process, particularly at the federal level.  His work also focuses on efforts to ensure that national and homeland security measures include protections for constitutional and other civil liberties.

Before joining Heritage in 2006, Walsh worked on contract with the Department of Homeland Security and integrated private-sector organizations into government emergency preparedness and disaster response efforts at the federal, state, and local levels.  From 2002 to 2005, Walsh was an associate in the Washington office of Kirkland & Ellis, LLP.  Before joining Kirkland & Ellis, he served as a law clerk to Judge Pasco M. Bowman III on the 8th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. 

Walsh spent 12 years working with and consulting to Fortune 500 high-tech firms in the Denver-Boulder area, and has extensive experience designing and developing enterprise-level telecommunications and computer networking systems. 

Walsh graduated magna cum laude from the Regent University School of Law and holds a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Colorado.
