summary:
Khristine Brookes is The Heritage Foundation's Director of Media Services, responsible for promoting Heritage analysts and their research to radio, television, print and online journalists.
Under Brookes' direction, Heritage's broadcast media appearances have set a standard for think tanks nationwide. Heritage experts appear repeatedly on all four broadcast network news programs (ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS) with a combined audience of 6 million to 10 million per appearance. Indeed, in 2006, Heritage analysts appeared eight times on the No.1 rated cable news program, FOX's "The O'Reilly Factor," which has around 3 million viewers nightly. But that doesn't compare to the record: On March 4, 2003, Heritage experts appeared 14 times on the national news networks – in one day.
Brookes also has occasionally appeared in the media herself as a Heritage spokeswoman, with her comments appearing in such tlets as CNN.com, The New York Times, Time and USA Today.
In 2002, Brookes' work earned her the prestigious Drs. W. Glenn and Rita Ricardo Campbell Award. It is given to the employee who has delivered "an outstanding contribution to the analysis and promotion of a Free Society."
Before coming to Heritage in 1999, Brookes served as a Press Secretary to Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC). She previously had been Press Secretary to Rep. Helen Chenoweth (R-ID), and a public relations specialist at the U.S. Department of Commerce and the National League of Cities.
Brookes has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Idaho and a master's degree in political science from George Washington University.
